यम-द्वितीया -- कलम पूजा -- श्री चित्रगुप्ताय नमः

सभी जीवों के पाप-पुण्य का लेखा जोखा रखने के लिए , ब्रम्हा जी की काया से भगवान् चित्रगुप्त उत्पन्न हुए । उत्पत्ति के समय इनके हाथ में कलम-दवात थी । ब्रम्हा जी की काया से उत्पन्न होने के कारण चित्रगुप्त जी की सभी संतानें कायस्थ कहलाई ।

श्री चित्रगुप्त जी की जयंती , यम-द्वितीया के दिन मनाते हैं , तथा इसी दिन चित्रगुप्त पूजा या कलम-पूजा करते हैं।

दिवाली के अगले दिन कलम नहीं उठाते हैं , जिसे कलम-शयन कहते हैं। इसलिए दिवाली के अगले दिन सभी शैक्षणिक तथा अन्य संस्थानों में भी अवकाश रहता है । यम द्वितीया के दिन कलम-पूजा के बाद ही कलम का उपयोग करते हैं।
